History of Hope Chests
A traditional hope chest is a wooden trunk or chest used to store special articles of clothing and other household goods for a bride to use after her marriage Early hope chests were often handmade by a young girls father. The family might spend months building and decorating a chest with artwork, carvings and other decorationswith meaning for their daughter.
Young women, dreaming of their wedding day, would build their collection of special items in this chest, which became a symbol of hope for the future. The new bride then brought her hope chest to her new home on her wedding day, and these items became part of her new household.
The hope chest was then passed on from mother to daughter, becoming a family heirloom.
At Sticks Art, you can find hope chest in a wide range of designs. Custom colors, words and images are also available.
